Customers feedback:
You know, I open a lot of foreign made junk. From simple brass fittings, to complex electrical components like TVs. You learn to recognize what is junk and what is not. For example; if you got to Lowes, Home Depot, Menards or other similar box stores and look at their plumbing supplies, you will see an awful lot of junk. How can you get a brass fitting ‘wrong’? If it’s made of brass, it should be good for certain applications, right? No… not right. Even among simple things like brass fittings, you can see a huge disparity between what you buy at Lowes or WallMart, vs what you might buy at a plumbing supply store.
Gonna give this five stars because I like it in spite of two significant problems I’ve had and solved:1. The unit is shipped in a pretty retail box like you’d find if you bought it at a retail store. Pictures printed on it of what’s inside and enough cardboard to protect it from scratches and keep the parts together but no padding beyond one or two layers of single-ply corregated. This same box is not enough for shipping 65lbs of metal across the country or the county and the first unit arrived with body panels bent or displaced and some broken plastic in the chassis. I shipped it back and they Fed-Ex’d another one to me. Good-bye profit.2. I noticed that the grooves in the metal wire feed drive didn’t align with the wire and after a while the wire would work out of the groove and stop feeding. They diagnosed this as a warranty problem and yada, yada, I told them I would prefer to return the second unit rather than take time off from work and drive 60 miles round-trip to a warranty repair center. The solution: Hobart shipped a new feed motor and spindle to me and I replaced it myself in about an hour. The new unit fixed the mis-alignemnt mostly, but there’s got to be a better way to get that wire aligned with the slots…Other than those two things, anything else bad that has happened is due to my inexperience and/or incompetence in the art of welding metals together.
I had just bought a mechanic shop and the welder that came with the shop just wasn’t cutting it. I started doing some research and came to find that this unit shares pretty much everything with it’s bluer Miller brother. Despite this Hobart being marketed as more consumer, I felt pretty confident buying it. I just love the quality of this thing. I don’t weld personally, so I can’t tell you what about welding it is so nice. But I know the sound of good welding, and this thing has it. The all metal drive is a nice touch and speaks volume of how it was engineered: to last. I’ve had it since July and liked it so well, I bought one for my dad and his mechanic shop. We use it mostly for exhaust pipes and some minor frame repair. I couldn’t speak more highly nor recommend a better 140 welder. If you’re a consumer, prosumer, or even working professional looking to weld thin metal, this Hobart has what you need. We use it with 75% Argon and love it.

Customers Feedback:
For 100 bucks shipped to my door? Worth every darn penny. The wire that comes with it was great for sheet metal work. My buddy borrowed it and put the cheap harbor freight 30 wire in it, and the thing just cranks out welds. She’s no professional unit, but for the occasional user or home gamer, the thing is a champ. Having 4 heat settings and infinite wire speed control is the reason i tried this one instead of slightly more expensive home gamer brands like it. I made a good decision. The wire is always live. Be careful where you lay down your gun. For 99 bucks, it’s really not a big deal. I’m not a beginner. I just needed a cheap toy for home projects. Was expecting cheap garbage that didn’t work, but was pleasently surprised by the welds a $99 machine can lay down. If you are a beginner, don’t kid yourself. Buy a cheap mask too, because the face shield thing it comes with makes a better shovel than it does a welding shield.I’d say if you want a machine to use a few times a year under 400 bucks, choose this one over any of the others. If you wanna do any kind of production work or use it daily, do yourself a favor and spend some actual cash on an actual name brand though.
Like many other reviewers, I know next to nothing about welding. I was apprehensive, but the first time up I was able to successfully join two 1 1/2” pieces of square tube together with a strong (though ugly) weld. This thing works and works well.A couple of tips I picked up from an online video (I don’t remember the site but he deserves the credit. Sorry.) First, the mystery of the two switches on the front labeled “high/low” and “1/2”: there are four power settings which are enabled by their relative positions. When switched to low and 1, the lowest power setting is enabled. Switch to low and 2, and the second lowest setting is enabled. Switch to high and 1 and it’s the third highest setting. Finally, high and 2 give you the highest setting.Another tip from the video is this: the shroud around the tip of the wire at the business end of the welder is really unnecessary. On a mig welder this is used to direct the gas to the weld. Since this is a flux core welder which uses no gas it can be removed so you can actually see the wire and its contact with the joint better. (The manual that accompanies the welder has been badly translated into broken English and gives very little instruction on using the machine. It instructs you put the shroud on the tip before welding but other than looks and perhaps some legal reason it works better without it.Go ahead and buy this machine. For the price and ease of use it is a no-brainer.
I have been welding over 45 years as a certified welder . The other guy is right , it’s not a metal inert gas (MIG) welder . It uses a welding wire with flux in the center of the wire that keeps oxygen / air away from the molten metal to keep it from burning up . I would say this little guy has as much penetration as a $1000 early 70’s professional welding MIG machine . The AC effect causes a bit more spater than 240V pro machine . My Barcalounger chair metal works broke pulling a 3/8″ rivet through a 1/8″ flatbar . Got this cute little machine UPS a week before it was supposed to show and within a few hours i was sitting in my favorite chair again . The hardest part getting the chair outside to where I have a 20 AMP plug….leather gloves . to weld, be an artists , use two hands , move slow and stady , keep the tip 1/4″ or less from the work and watch that you melt into both peaces of metal and hang around long enough for the wire to fill it in nicely .

Customers Feedback:
Am I in love. Sure am. I did my research up, down, and sideways comparing this to the harbor freight MigMax 215 which also has great reviews. For $200 more for the Hobart you’re getting a welder that is manufactured in the US with parts readily available and an ACTUAL warranty. This unit is essentially a Miller. Some of the parts even have the Miller stamp. I build commercial pressure washing trailers a handful of times each year and was using a Lincoln 120. This blows the socks off that welder at 120v and shazam.. this one is double good at 240v. I couldn’t be happier with this machine and would’ve spent $300-400 more dollars over the harbor freight thing knowing what I do after using it.
I usually TIG weld aluminum, but I wanted to weld thicker/larger pieces faster. To MIG weld aluminum requires spray transfer, and 200 amps is about the bottom end for thicker pieces. The Hobart 210 MVP with the addition of the SpoolRunner 100 spool gun welds 1/4 inch aluminum like lightning! I can weld in a 1/4 of the time of TIG. No stack of dimes look, but nice smooth fully penetrated welds. The MVP 110/220v feature makes this a good light duty flux-core field welder also (although it does weigh 75 lbs, so I wouldn’t want to hand-carry it daily). For occational field welding, I throw it in the truck and go! (140 amps at 110v, 210 amps at 220v).Now I can use my TIG for what it’s best at, heat control on thin material.I also contemplated buying the Miller 211 MVP with Autoset. I tried the Autoset feature at the local college on two seperate Miller 210’s, and was unimpressed. Ended up just simply setting the volts and wire-speed manually. The Miller does have the better continuously variable voltage select vs the Hobart 7 position voltage tap switch. Not a problem for me as 7 taps is more than enough to dial in the sweet spot. They both are quality american made machines. The main pluses for me are the Hobart is somewhat smaller and less expensive. I purchased a new cart and a 125cf cylinder with the cost difference and still had change left over.BTW, If your looking for an indstrial/commercial welder with a long duty cycle, look elswhere. Both the miller 211 and Hobart 210 have limited duty cycles. But for their intended purpose and for their price, they are both top notch.UPDATE: Its been over a year now, and this thing is a dream to use. It welds with a smooth frying bacon sound and it lays perfect beads on steel. I actually now prefer the 7 voltage taps vs the continuously variable voltage control on other MIG’s because I seem to find the sweet spot quicker.
I had the Hobart Handler 140 for several years and it was a great machine. I decided I wanted more power researched the 210 MVP. It has fantastic well deserved reviews so my decision was easy. I sold my 140 to help pay for the 210 and ordered the 210. It took 9 days to arrive even though it was prime shipping.Got it set up with the .030 flux core wire and put it through its paces. I worked it hard in both 110 and 220 volts. By far the best welder I have ever used!Smooth but powerful ark, this thing means business! It’s so easy to use that it makes me look like a much better welder than I really am. Like I said my 140 was a very good machine but the 210 is a great machine which I can’t ever see me outgrowing. Its a heavy transformer based machine which makes it very long lasting and dependable and it will probably out live me many years so my son’s will inherit a nice welder. I would buy this 210 MVP again in a heartbeat.

Buying Guide : When Choosing The Best Welding Machines
Before you buy important tool like the best hybrid saws, welding machines and others, it is important to consider some quality aspects of the product. I have provided you with some important tips that will help you pick a quality welding machine that meets your needs.
Nature of the Material to be welded (Metal)
Before you buy a welding machine, you need to consider the type of material you are going to use it on. Carbon steel is the material that’s usually welded, and it can withstand high temperatures. Stainless steel can also be welded but it can’t stand very high temperatures. So, when you want to weld stainless steel, you can buy MIG or TIG machines. When you want to weld an aluminum material, then you’ll have to supply it with heat consistently. This is to ensure the perfect co-joining for the base metal. In this case, you’ll need a TIG machine.
Amperage
The welding machines operate at different amperages. So, when buying a welding machine, find out what amperage the material you want to weld will need. In other words, the amperage of a machine determines the nature of the works it can handle. Thick metals may need high amperage, while thin metals will need low amperage. As a professional welder, you need to know what works best for you. You may also need to know the flexibility that will be necessary when working with your choice welding machine.
Specs Sheet
All new welding machines come with the specs sheet. Before you buy a welding machine, looks at its specs sheet. This way, you’ll see the tiny details about the machine that will help you make the right decision on whether to buy it or not. For example, the specs sheet will show how long the welding machine can be used, intervals of use, and the volume of work it can handle, the operating amperage, and many other details. The details on the specs sheet will also help you when you’ve bought the machine, and you’ve put it into use. You’ll know how to work within the acceptable operating levels of temperature, amperage, voltage, etc., so you don’t end up damaging the machine.
Thickness of the Materials You Want To Weld
The materials you want to weld will come in different thicknesses. The thickness of the materials will determine the amount of power (voltage and current) you need to weld them. Using the right amount of power will ensure you get the right weld. If you are dealing mainly with thick materials, you’ll need high voltage to create a clean and robust weld across all surfaces. If you use low voltage on a thick material, the weld will be weak and will break off so easily. Examples of voltage needed for various material thickness include:
- 110V – Mild Steel of 1/8″ thickness
- 220V – Mild Steel of 1/4″ thickness
- 110V – Aluminum of 1/8″ thickness
- 220V – Aluminum of 1/4″ thickness
- 110V- Stainless Steel of 1/8″ thickness
- 220V – Stainless Steel of 1/4″ thickness
Welding Position
The angle at which you’ll apply the welding is a vital factor when purchasing a welding machine. Will you be welding on a horizontal, vertical, or inclined surface? Will you be welding on both horizontal and vertical surfaces? Welding positions do vary, and it is wise to choose a welding machine that will be comfortable to use on whatever inclination you’ll be welding at.
Cost
The cost of a welding machine is also vital in determining the welding machine to buy. Different welding machines cost differently, and the amount you are willing to spend can be a limiting factor. However, it would be best if you always went for Best Welding Machines, no matter the cost, so you can get high-quality welds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How many amps are needed by a welding machine?
A: Welding machines need between 90 to 100 amps. If you are using a 220v machine, you’ll use about half the amperage used by a welder using 110v machine. The most common amperage for welding machines is 90-100 amps, but that doesn’t rule out larger welders (or smaller welders). For 220v, you may get as low as 20 amps or 30 amps. And for 110v, you may get 20 amps or 50 amps.
Q: Which welding rod is the easiest to use?
A: There are many types of electrodes used for welding. The ones preferred by many welders are the 7018 electrodes. It is easier to use because it contains thick flux with a high content of power. The 7018 rods produce quiet smooth arc with medium penetration of arc and minimal spatter. Many professional welders use these rods on thick metals, including structural steel. This is because they produce secure, reliable welds that can support heavy loads without yielding.
Q: Can welders get plugged into regular outlets?
A: Whether to plug your welder into a regular outlet depends on the power (amperage) requirement of the welder. For home welding, you need a welder such as the Millermatic 141 MIG because it can operate below 120v. If your welder operates on 220v, you’ll have to install a plug that can support it by handling the extra amperages it needs. Do not plug a welder into an outlet that can’t support it.
Q: Why do welding rods keep sticking?
A: If your welding rods keep sticking, it means you are getting them so close to the base metal. When you do this, the voltage will decrease, and the arc will go out, and the welding rod will stick to the base metal rather than melting the way it should. Welding rods do stick a lot for learners, but only once in a while for experienced welders.
Final Thoughts
Things will always break, and they’ll need repairs. Whether you are a homeowner or you are employed to work on a welding project, you’ll meet different jobs such as maintenance, repair, remodeling, or creating completely new structures. There are a variety of welding methods, just as much as there’s a variety of welding machines.
Choosing the right machine and the right welding method is necessary for the success of your project. When you choose the right welding process, you’ll save many hours of grinding, polishing, repairs, and production. There are many welding accessories for you to choose from. They range from stick welders, TIG welders, MIG welders, and oxyacetylene welders. The purpose of your welding is also important. Whether it is for your private home use or it is production-related, the quality of the weld must be maintained.
Yes,
It would help if you had a weld that sufficiently penetrates the material without causing pocket or pores, and without leaving any gaps. High-end machines produce high quality welds but are costly. If you are a professional welder, you need to purchase high-end welding machines to ensure your work is exceptional. If you are dealing with structures that support heavy loads, you’ll have no option but to use the Best Welding Machines. His will ensure that those who use your structures are safe.
